There are no specific qualifications for the role of vehicle returns inspector but all employers offer ongoing development training. As the role requires a good technical understanding most employers will expect potential employees to be able to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills, and to have experience combined with one or more of the following:
Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles (VRQ)
Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Inspection (QCF)
Edexcel Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Competence

Work will be varied, ranging from inspecting vehicles to being office based and communicating your findings. You will work approximately 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday.

You would normally progress into this role after that of an experienced diagnostic technician and/or MOT tester.

You’ll be working in a service technician type role, carrying out routine maintenance and basic repairs, as well as identifying and reporting faults.

Vehicle parts operatives (or parts advisers) order, sell and manage stock control on a wide range of parts and accessories for all kinds of vehicles – from cars and motorcycles, to lorries, buses and coaches.
