Fast-fit supervisors are responsible for supervising repairs to or replacement of worn or damaged tyres, exhausts, batteries and parts. They are normally based in fast-fit centres, or workshops alongside motor vehicle technicians. The main duties of a fast-fit supervisor will include:

  • Supporting team members in dealing with day-to-day tasks
  • Testing batteries and other engine parts to find faults
  • Checking tyres and exhausts for defects
  • Replacing or repairing faulty parts
  • Balancing and re-aligning wheels
  • Offering customers advice on simple maintenance issues
  • Checking completed repairs and replacements

As a fast-fit supervisor you will need to demonstrate:

  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • Good management and leadership skills
  • Good customer service and communication skills
  • An awareness of health and safety regulations and the ability to ensure they are followed at all times
  • A reasonable level of fitness
  • Good manual skills
  • The ability to cope well under pressure

Please note: These figures are meant as a guide only and may vary from employer to employer and may be dependent on the geographical area.

As a fast-fit supervisor you are likely to work between 5 – 6 days per week, which usually includes Saturday work, often on a rota system. You may also be expected to work some evenings to suit the needs of the company and support them during their busier periods. You would normally work in a dedicated tyre and exhaust centre, which may include a garage fitting workshop.

Salary:

  • Starting salaries for fast-fit supervisors may be between £12,000 - £ 15,000 per year
  • For those who have experience and qualifications, this may go up to between £16,000 - £18,000

There may be opportunities for shift and overtime pay depending on your employer. You may also be eligible for holiday entitlement, company pension and private healthcare schemes.

Apprenticeships

Vehicle Fitting (Advanced- Supervisor)  As an apprentice, you’ll choose to specialise in one of two areas: fast-fit, which involves identifying, removing and replacing faulty components like tyres, batteries, and brakes; or specialist tyre fitting, which deals with removing and replacing tyres on anything from cars to tractors.  On the Advanced Level Apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to supervise fast-fit operations by managing stock, organising staff and advising customers.
